It is very important to understand when this method is to be utilized. For example, epoxy injection of corrosion-induced cracks is a very common mistake made in the industry. Very few of these repair attempts have been successful because the corrosion process is not mitigated, the corrosion products continue to expand causing additional formation of cracks.
When utilized correctly, cracks in concrete are filled by injecting a low or high-viscosity epoxy resin into cracks. The epoxy resin is injected under pressure which allows full-depth penetration of the crack, providing an effective crack repair. This provides a good seal for the crack and when executed correctly, may restore the intended monolithic action of the original concrete section.
Epoxy’s high tensile and bonding strength prevents further elongation and yawning of structural cracks. However, the cause of the structural stress itself must be determined and resolved in order to assure proper repair.
